My why for Secure Space Kit

I’m a sucker for a good hotel room moment.

The robe, the slippers, the “look at me living my best life” phone mirror selfie.

But feeling safe? That’s the real luxury.

So! why a portable door lock?

The door already has a lock, right?

Plus you need a digital room key, so it must be safe.

Ask yourself why even the fanciest hotels still add a chain lock or steel bar on top of their state-of-the-art digital systems. Those “extra” locks exist for a reason. Digital systems fail. Humans make mistakes. And sometimes, very rarely, but still too often, someone abuses access.

Here’s my story.

I was staying at a 4.5-star hotel in what most people would call a safe, postcard-perfect country. I was there for a work conference and, for budget reasons, shared a room with another woman.

The first night, we got hopelessly lost finding our rooms, so the staff kindly drove us in buggies through the resort. They were friendly. Welcoming. They recognised us each day. It all felt perfectly normal.

On our last night, my roommate had a 2:00am flight. When she left, I got up to say goodbye and instinctively slid the steel latch across the door.

I don’t think he expected that.

At around 2:30am, there was a faint knock. I assumed it was for another room, until I looked through the peephole and saw… nothing. Completely covered by a finger.

He knocked again, louder this time.

My stomach dropped.

I said firmly, “Go away please.”

He didn’t.

Instead, he used his swipe card and forced the door open, but the latch caught it.

Thank God for that split-second instinct.

I screamed when I saw who it was: the same staff member who’d been so kind to us earlier in the trip.

He swore and ran.

I slammed the door shut, shaking.

Then came the worst part:

The silence.

The aloneness.

The feeling of not knowing who to call or whether I'd even be believed.

I didn’t sleep after that.

I couldn’t wait to get home, to a place where I felt safe again.

Since that night, I’ve carried my own portable door lock. I’ve tested so many over the yearsin hotels, on cruises, Airbnbs and I’ve finally found one that:

  • fits snugly into the frame

  • doesn’t budge under pressure

  • doesn’t rely on the hotel’s systems working perfectly

There is no “push against a weak chain” moment.

No “hope the bar holds.”

It simply doesn’t allow the door to open.

And here’s the truly heartbreaking thing…

Every time I’ve shared my story, women have said, “Oh my God, something like that happened to me too.” Some were lucky like me. Some weren’t. And if you know… you know.

If you want the exact setup I use: portable lock, RFID sleeves, alarms, hidden camera detectors, the works — the very reason I created the Secure Space Kit. I got you! And you can be all set in just three minutes upon arrival!

Everything in one luxe pouch.

Everything chosen with intention.

Everything designed to help you travel lighter, smarter, and with confidence you can feel.

Safety isn’t about fear.

It’s about freedom, the freedom to enjoy your adventures without second-guessing your instincts.
